Department Overview
Department of Procurement and Logistics Management (PLM), Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU)
Established in 2011, the Department of Procurement and Logistics Management (PLM) at Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU) was among the pioneering institutions in Ghana to offer a dual-specialization programme integrating Procurement and Supply Chain Management with Logistics and Transport Management. Since its inception, the Department has evolved significantly, responding to global trends and the dynamic needs of industry and academia.
Currently, the Department offers a range of academic programmes designed to produce highly competent professionals who are equipped to meet the demands of both local and international supply chain environments. These include:
- Master of Science (MSc) in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (2 years)
- Master of Science (MSc) in Procurement and Supply Chain Management (1 year)
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (4 years) (Full-time and Weekends)

Brief Biography
Dr. Oswald Atiga has been a leading academic and researcher for the past decade. He has conducted extensive research and published in reputable African and international journals in the areas of Logistics Management, Ghana’s Public Procurement Law, Procurement Management, and Ethics.
Dr. Atiga has also published a book entitled “Public Sector Procurement in Ghana Volume 1.”
Additionally, he lectures Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management related courses not only at the Bolgatanga Technical University School of Business, but also on a part-time basis at the IDL-KNUST and UDS Business Schools.

Prof. Emmanuel Caesar Ayamba is a seasoned academic with over 15 years of teaching experience at Bolgatanga Technical University.
He is an astute researcher with numerous publications in reputable journals, focusing on Sustainable Development, Tourism Development, Environmental Sustainability, Economic Growth, and Corporate Social Responsibility.
He has authored more than three books under the auspices of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and the Ministry of Education, contributing significantly to educational development and policy formulation.

- Led the department on a visit to Zipline (Walewale), resulting in a research collaboration that produced successfully published research articles.
- Under his leadership as Head of Department, 2-year and 1-year MSc programmes in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management were introduced and are currently running.
- Introduced a 4-year BSc programme in Procurement, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management (Regular and Weekend options).
- Introduced a 2-year Diploma programme in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
- Led outreach programmes and radio interactions to promote departmental programmes, resulting in a tremendous increase in student enrollment over the past four years.

Brief Biography
Dr. James Abagna Azanlerigu is an astute academic who has researched broadly and widely in the areas of service operations in dynamic business environments and sustainable procurement orientation in SOEs and private entities.
He is a former Head of Department and has chaired a number of committees. He has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students’ theses in the field of procurement, logistics, and supply chain management.
Dr. Azanlerigu lectures undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the department, at the KNUST Distance Learning Programmes, and at the UDS Business School.
He is one of the key founders of the Department of Procurement and Logistics Management and a pioneering lecturer directly involved in the development of relevant and critical curriculum for departmental programmes.
Currently, Dr. Azanlerigu also serves as a resource person at the KNUST-Africa Institute of Sanitation & Waste Management (K-AISAM) in corporate training in logistics and supply chain management.

He has taught several courses in procurement, logistics, and supply chain management. He has also supervised numerous student research theses and dissertations at both the HND and BSc levels.
In addition to teaching and thesis supervision, he has published research papers in the areas of ethical procurement, educational supply chain management, electronic procurement, last-mile logistics, and healthcare logistics.
