Admission Requirements
1. The minimum requirements for admission into the Master of Science (MSc.) programmes are:
- Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized University or Institution.
- Applicants with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division in a related subject area are eligible to apply.
- All applicants are required to pass a selection interview
2. The requirements for admission into 4-year BSc or BTech programmes are:
- SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE Candidates: Six credit passes (A-D/A1-C6): three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics; and Social Studies/Integrated Science with at least three (3) elective credit passes relevant to the area of specialization/chosen area of study.
- NABPTEX/CTVET Candidates: Six credit passes: three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics; and Social Studies/Integrated Science with at least three (3) elective credit passes relevant to the area of specialization/chosen area of study.
- Mature Applicants must: be 25 years old (and should attach a Birth Certificate/Baptismal Card) with at least five (5) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English Language and Mathematics; have a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience; and pass a written Examination to be conducted by the University.
3. Top-up applicants must be:
- Holders of HND, ACCA, ICA, or Diploma relevant to the programme of study.
- Holders of Construction Technician Part III or Technician Part II (old scheme).
- Holders of certificates equivalent to HND, ACCA, ICA, Construction Technician Part III or II may apply for top-up programmes relevant to their specialization.
4. Prospective Applicants for Higher National Diploma (HND)
- SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE Candidates: Six passes (A-D/A1-D7): three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics; and Social Studies/Integrated Science with at least three (3) elective credit passes (A-D/A1-C6) relevant to the area of specialization/study.
- NABPTEX/CTVET Candidates: Six passes – three core subjects including English Language and Mathematics; and Social Studies/Integrated Science with at least three (3) elective passes relevant to the area of specialization/chosen area of study.
- Technical/Vocational/Business/Commercial Certificates: Applicants with Diploma in Business Studies (DBS), Diploma in Computerized Accounting (DCA), Diploma in Banking Technology & Accounting (DBTA), and Diploma in Business Administration (DBA) are qualified for entry into related HND programmes.
- RSA II/III, MET I/II, MVT I/II, EET I/II, GCC/CTC I/II or CTC I & II, OTDF Certificate, Advanced B/C Craft Certificate, Institutional Management or City & Guilds Part I & II (812/1, 812/2) or Stenographer Certificate plus four SSSCE/WASSCE credits including English Language and Mathematics.
- Four-Year Cert. ‘A’ or Post-Sec. Teachers’ Certificate holders may apply.
- Mature Applicants for HND must: be 25 years old (and should attach a Birth Certificate or Baptismal Card) with at least four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or four (4) GCE ‘O’ Level credits including English Language and Mathematics; have a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience; and pass a written examination to be conducted by the University.
NOTE: Applicants for Engineering Programmes should have Science background, and applicants for Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management should have Home Economics or Catering background.
5. The following candidates qualify for admission into any of the 2-Year Diploma Programmes (EVENING AND REGULAR SCHOOL)
- SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE/RSA II Holders: Four passes (4) including English Language and Core Mathematics; and at least two (2) passes in relevant elective subjects.
- Technical School (Certificate II) Applicants (NABPTEX &TEU): Should have passes (A-E) in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies plus, three (3) passes (A-E) in relevant elective subjects.
- Technician Applicants (MET 1 / MVT 1 / AET 1 / AMW/ Technician Part I and Part II): must also have four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE passes including English Language and Mathematics.
- Other Applicants with Certificates in General Courses in Construction (GCC), Construction Technicians Certificate I&II (CTC I &II), Final CTC2/3 or Advanced Craft Certificate, OTD Certificate in Building/Civil Engineering, Craft Certificate in Block Laying and Concreting, Building Draughtsmanship, Plumbing and Gas Fitting or Carpentry and Joinery, in addition to a minimum of two (2) SSSCE/WASSCE passes in Core English, Mathematics or Science can apply.
Applicants with three (3) passes in NVTI Certificate II or CTVET National Certificate I Holders including their equivalents may apply.
- Mature Applicants must: be at least 25 years old (with documentary proof of date of birth) with at least three (3) SSSCE/WASSCE passes or three (3) GCE ‘O’ Level credits one of which should be English Language or Mathematics; have a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience; and pass a written examination/interview to be conducted by the University.
NOTE: Applicants for Engineering/Science Programmes should have Science/Technical background.
6. Candidates for the One-Year Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology
- Technology should have SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE with at least three (3) passes: one core subject (English Language/Mathematics/Science and any two (2) elective passes in Science or Agriculture related subjects. Mature Applicants must: be at least 25 years old (with documentary proof of date of birth) with at least two (2) SSSCE/WASSCE/GBCE passes one of which should be English Language or Mathematics; have a minimum of one (1) year’s work experience; and pass a written examination/interview to be conducted by the University.
7. PRE-HND (ACCESS) COURSE Candidates must be Science, Vocational or Technical School graduates
- graduates who do have all the requirements to study HND. They will be given instruction for one year (i.e. two semesters of sixteen (16) weeks each) in English Language, Mathematics and Science. Candidates are required to obtain a minimum of 50% pass in each of the three subjects in the final examination to be conducted by the Commission for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) to qualify to enroll into any of the HND programmes as follows:
- HND Hotel, Catering & Institutional Management
- HND Industrial Art (with option in Graphic Design, Fashion and Design, Ceramics, Leather Work, Sculpture and Painting & Decoration
- HND Civil Engineering
- HND Agricultural Engineering
- HND General Agriculture (Ecological)
- HND Building Technology
- HND Statistics
- HND Mechanical Engineering
- HND Electrical/Electronic Engineering
- HND Automobile Engineering
- HND Medical Laboratory Technology
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
- International applicants may be admitted on the basis of qualifications from their countries for which equivalence shall be determined by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
- Evidence of proficiency in English Language will be required in the case of applicants from non -English speaking countries. International applicants are also requested to acquire Non-Citizens Ghana Card as a pre-requisite for admission. International applicants who fail to obtain this card will not have their applications processed.
