Department Overview
The Department of Marketing & Communication equips students with the skills to thrive in today’s dynamic media and business landscape. We focus on strategic marketing, digital media, branding, public relations, and corporate communication. Through a blend of theory, creativity, and real-world application, our programs prepare future marketers and communicators to influence audiences, build brands, and drive business success.
Brief History of the Marketing and Communications Department
The Marketing and Communications Department was established in the year 2003 as one of the pioneer departments in the School of Business and Management Studies. In the same year, the Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing programme was introduced. A Head of Department was also appointed the same year, and twenty-seven students were enrolled as the first batch of students. Over time, the department expanded its offerings to include Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Bachelor of Science (BSc) programmes and other specialized marketing courses. In 2024 the department was rebranded and renamed the Department of Marketing and Communication. This rebranding then gave the department the opportunity to run courses in the areas of marketing and communications, hence its scope has been expanded since then. The overarching aim is to offer students an opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills in marketing, communication, public relations and media studies, in order to contribute meaningfully and purposefully to the realization of objectives of organizations and the community at large. The emphasis is on both theoretical knowledge and practical application, preparing students for leadership roles in marketing and communication in both the public and private sectors.
